Description

This glass CO2 drop checker is used to monitor the CO2 dosing in your aquarium. Simply fill with CO2 indicator solution and the solution will change colour to indicate the level of CO2 in the aquarium water.

The U-shape (technically it's n shape) enables the drop checker to be fitted over the rim of the aquarium. This makes it easier to analyse the colour of the drop checker, as there is less glare from lights or the aquarium glass itself. It also reduces the amount of equipment within the aquarium, leaving the space clear from distractions.

The drop checker should be used in conjunction with a bubble counter so that fine adjustments to CO2 dosing can be achieved. Always make small changes to CO2 dosing, particularly if increasing the dose.

The kit includes pre-mixed drop checker solution, which is added directly to the drop checker. The solution comes in a 15ml dropper bottle for ease of use. The solution will last 6 months if changed on a monthly basis.

Instructions

  • Turn drop checker up-side-down so that the curved bend is at the bottom.
  • Add 5 drops of drop checker solution.
  • Slowly rotate the drop checker so that the solution enters the bulb.
  • Repeat the above steps until the bulb is 2/3 full of the solution.
  • Position the drop checker so that it hangs over the glass of your aquarium, with the bulb of drop check solution on the outside of the aquarium.
  • Try to position in area of aquarium where CO2 bubbles from the diffuser will not enter the drop checker and give inaccurate readings.
  • Wait at least 6 hours for colour to accurately reflect the CO2 levels in the aquarium.
  • Adjust CO2 dosing in accordance to drop checker colour:
  • If the colour of the solution is yellow it indicates too much CO2 is present - reduce your CO2 dosing.
  • If the colour of the solution is blue increase CO2 dose in small increments.
  • If the colour is a light green you have the correct CO2 dosing.
  • Leave drop checker in aquarium for constant CO2 monitoring.
  • Change drop checker solution at least once every 4 weeks.

I misread when ordering, my aquarium has a glass thickness of 12mm and I have to install it by fiddling with a suction cup while he must be straddling the glass.
